Updating MPS with new share class

Tags: MPS, new share class, SECId

Introduction:

Fundipedia integrates with the Morningstar “MPS” system to allow KIID related data to be managed from within Fundipedia. The link between Fundipedia and MPS is based on the ISIN of the share class. However, MPS also maintains its own unique identifier for each share class, known as the Security ID (“SecID”).

Not all share classes that are managed in Fundipedia should be linked to MPS, as MPS is used solely for KIID production, and not all share classes need KIIDs. To identify those which should be so linked there is a field in Fundipedia called “MPS_SendToMPS”) which appears with the label “Send to MPS” on the standard share class view, KIID – Share Class Details page.

When creating a new share class in Fundipedia, it is possible to hide it from MPS while basic information is gathered and entered into Fundipedia, simply by leaving that field unticked.

When the decision is made that the data is in good enough shape to be sent to MPS simply click on the Send to MPS check box. Once that has been approved the information will be sent to MPS on the next update cycle, typically within minutes.

Fundipedia will link to MPS using a matching ISIN and will then download the SecID and populate that in Fundipedia.

Although normally hidden, the SecID field can be edited in Fundipedia if the required permissions have been granted, but will only start sending data from the time this SecID is set - any data entered before this SecID will not be sent to MPS. The SecID should only be used in this way to link an existing record.
